Mr. Sumet Mingmongkolmitr is a co-founding member and senior partner of Blumenthal Richter & Sumet. He has led the firm’s Tax and Customs department through years of successive growth, and has been central to BRS establishing itself as one of the foremost independent providers of tax and customs advice in the region.

He specializes in legal services concerning tax and customs, foreign investment and commercial matters in Thailand, and advises regional public and private enterprises as well as local high-net-worth individuals on a wide range of projects.

Sumet has extensive knowledge of bilateral agreements entered into by the Thai government for the avoidance of double taxation, and the prevention of fiscal evasion in relation to taxes on income. He is widely revered for his comprehensive understanding of the Thai tax appeals process and the application of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), in particular those provisions regarding valuations for customs purposes.

Sumet’s expertise covers local and international tax and customs law and his legal services include planning and advising on tax efficient structures for various types of commercial transactions, including business transfers and acquisitions, trade agreements and resolving disputes with tax and customs authorities. He has successfully handled numerous claims against clients by revenue authorities both in the post-audit stage and at the appeal stage in the Thai Tax Court obtaining both outright judgments in our favor or satisfactory settlements.

He has wide-ranging experience of dealing with Thai administrative agencies, including but not limited to the Ministry of Commerce, Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), Labour Department and Land Department. He has represented multinational companies in lobbying Thai authorities on many matters.

Sumet received his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) and Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Chulalongkorn University, and is a member of the Law Society of Thailand and the Thai Bar Association.
